Brief

For my A2 media coursework I will have to create a blog in which I will document the research, construction, planning and evaluation that will ultimately result in a finished low budget horror film trailer, film poster and magazine front cover. The trailer will be a project conducted in a group whilst the other two tasks will be completed independently. All of the research presented on this blog will clearly explain any decisions made in the overall process of completing the coursework whilst the planning will show all he things done up to the point of shooting the actual trailer and completing the other two tasks.

The research stage was predominantly done by collecting data. I asked 50 of my peers to fill out an online survey and then went on gather some secondary data to back up decisions my group and I were making regarding our trailer. Other than quantitative data, I received some more personal qualitative responses which gave me more detail than the survey. Other than this I looked into other existing media as well as the codes and conventions of horror films and the history behind horror films.

Planning consisted of a lot of work that would prove vital in the construction element of my coursework. A film synopsis had to be created which preluded the drawing, colouring, outlining and annotating of storyboards and then shooting scripts. Prep for the actual filming took up some of planning mainly in the form of call sheets, recce documents, character profiles etc.

The final constructed pieces of work are then presented on the blog and followed evaluative questions that ask me to explore various avenues of my coursework such as conventions, effectiveness, audience, technology etc.
